Initially, my goal with this book was to teach HSP (Highly Sensitive People) women to learn how to make enjoying life a habit. But as I was writing this, that goal seemed so superficial. When I thought back to when I was not feeling good, about life or about myself, I didn’t think much about enjoyment at all. I wasn’t really able to, because I was too restless. Although I did often pretend to enjoy myself, that was mostly ‘fake’ and for the outside world. The problem went much deeper than ‘not being able to enjoy myself’. I was scared and stressed. I also felt tense and sad inside, and when times were hard, I thought mainly about survival and getting through the day. I didn’t like myself very much and was acting out a persona I thought others would accept. It was about pushing away traits and emotions I didn’t want to feel at all. I didn’t dare to be myself and realised I was allowed to learn to love myself as I am. Fully, not just some parts. I also learned not to look for that love and affirmation in other people or things. Not to look outside all the time, but inside.
Step by step, I became nicer to myself. Only then did I start to relax and enjoy myself. I realised that you can only really enjoy yourself when you become your own BFF. Your own best friend. I felt this was important. I wanted to teach other women this. Now, I have coached several women in real life and I regularly show them on Instagram what it is like to be in this learning process. Whatever I have learned in the past few years, I also want to share in this book.
My name is Gertrude and I am an EnjoymentExpert. On the one hand because, as an HSP woman I can enjoy intensely and have taught myself to be able to. Enjoying life really is an art and in my opinion you can only really do that if you start to enjoy yourself and work on your inner world. With everything I have learned in recent years, I have devised a method in which you can become your own BFF with the help of 12 chapters. This means not just reading, but actually taking action! Should you feel while reading or doing the assignments that you don’t want to do this process alone, that’s perfectly normal. I have had help with that too. Don’t be ashamed of it, ask for help from a coach or other specialist. By applying each step and doing the exercises, you will get closer to your goal step by step.
And your main goal, of course, is to become your own BFF. You are going to feel what you feel and you will understand how your thoughts work. You also learn to accept yourself more and more, set boundaries and believe in yourself! OH YES! You want that too, don’t you?
After each step you have the space to carry out a practical assignment that will help you to really implement that step in your life. Keep in mind that as an HSP you need more time to let everything sink in, so really take your time to read and understand the chapters. You can set yourself the goal of reading one step every week and also do the corresponding assignment.
